D'addario pays more to have their ball ends precision turned from solid brass stock. The edges have radii that prevent the ball end from cutting into wooden bridges or guitar tops. Each string is twisted to perfection right down to the three neatly wrapped "lock twists." And those lock twists help keep their plain steel strings from unraveling or breaking prematurely. great sound for coated strings October 30, 2009

For coated strings, I haven't found any better-sounding ones than these. Actually, I was kind of shocked when I first put them on my guitar because they sounded as vibrant as some of the non-coated strings I've used. Additionally, I appreciate the new style of packaging D'Addario uses. The strings are bundled together in one thin (admittedly non-recyclable) plastic bag instead of being individually wrapped in paper sleeves. Good stuff. These would be my first choice if I were to be on the road for any length of time without a spare set.

I've been using these strings for years. I've tried others and I'm just not as impressed as I am with D'Addario strings. I won't use anything else on my guitars!

Not an expert but I liked the sound, although my guitar isn't made for medium gauge strings. The held a note for a good while and stayed in tune. Only down side is that they tarnish in a few weeks and the sound starts to change, slightly. These strings are not coated, but D'Addario does make coated strings called EXP I believe.
